OPENING RECEPTION WITH THE ARTIST IN ATTENDANCE ~
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21, FROM 2 TO 4 PM

Donna Baspaly's art career spans over thirty years. She has exhibited in Japan, Australia, the United States and Canada and has earned many prestigious awards. Donna is a Senior Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and is one of twenty-six women in Canada with these credentials. The Northwest Watercolor Society in the U.S.A. awarded her signature status in 1998. In 2000 Donna was the Chairperson for the International Aim for Arts exhibition earning her a lifetime membership with the Federation.

Donna's design have been featured in an exclusive line of autographed bedding for the Daniadown Company. Her work is on the cover of a limited edition book. She is a popular international workshop instructor as well as a sought after juror. Donna is a part of the FCA Standards Committee and has been an annual juror of the Pacific Rim International Miniature Art Contest.

Many pieces of her art have been purchased by corporate collectors and introduced to private homes by some Vancouver's leading interior designers. Eleven of her images are in print with Canadian Art Prints. Television Profiles are shot about the artist by such television companies as CTV-TV and SHAW.

Donna is a Master of mixed media. The unique depth of each piece is achieved by applying many layers of stamping, collage papers, underlying texture, glazing, line work and a lot more. Veils, Translucency, and opagues are tinted or toned gesso creating transparent gossamer veils right up to blocking an area with total opacity to quiet passages of the painting to give the eye a chance to rest.

Many of Baspaly`s abstracts are multi-layered design images on canvas with personally created stamps and papers. The symbols, marks and messages are a tapestry leading to doorways of the past.
Applying exaggeration, playfulness and shape making in the women series, Donna suggests we take a lighter view of life.

""My personal growth is synonymous with my artwork. The process of creation forces me to reach deep inside myself and then expand as far outwardly as I am capable. With any subject, my goal is to express my uniqueness with the highest integrity."
